Obituary

Margaret W. "Meg" Nelson of North Wales passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on December 2, 2024.  She was 67 years old. Born in Stamford, CT to Richard and Marcia Boulton Allen, she was the loving wife of Eric Nelson and devoted mother of two daughters, Calista and Sarah Nelson both of Virginia Beach, VA.

In addition, she is survived by her two sisters and their husbands, Rebecca Barlow (Steve) and her identical twin, Louise Coughlan (David). Nieces, Emily Darrow, Betsy Coughlan, and Tory Coughlan, nephews, Jonathan Nelson and Zachary Nelson along with our entire extended family. Meg's family and friends were the cornerstone and joy of her life.

A 1975 graduate of Darien High School, an inscription in her senior yearbook describes Meg perfectly, "Start every day with a Smile."  Meg loved spending time in New Hampshire as she spent many summers at Camp Nellie Huckins, first as a childhood camper and then her high school and college years as a CIT/counselor.

Meg attended Gettysburg College from fall of 1975 through graduation in June of 1979 with a BA in Sociology. While attending Gettysburg, she served as a dorm counselor for three years.  She was a member and sister of the Chi Omega sorority, serving as President her junior year.  Meg and Eric met at Gettysburg and are fortunate to have so many lifelong friends from Gettysburg who are near and dear to the Nelson family.

Meg graduated in 1982 from Webster University with an MA in Human Resources, working as a drug and alcohol counselor.  Meg and Eric spent the next decade moving from NC, Germany, PA, GA, NY and settled in North Wales in '92.  Meg was a talented painting contractor in our community.  She was a volunteer with North Wales Elementary PTA, Upper Gwynedd Parkside Place Playground build, and as an avid gardener and President of Merrybrook Garden Club.  She was grateful and felt fortunate to have been able to support and be a part of the community.  As a member of Cedarbrook Country Club, Meg enjoyed being with friends playing Bocce and dining with friends.  Meg loved summer vacations hiking and kayaking on Squam Lake in New Hampshire with her sisters, Eric and her special time with Calista and Sarah.

Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate Meg's life on Saturday, March 29, 2025 at 11:30am at Church of the Messiah, 1001 Dekalb Pike, Lower Gwynedd Township, PA 19002 with Reverend Emily Given officiating.  A visitation with the family will precede the service from 10:30am to 11:30am at the church.  Please RSVP to megnelsonmemorialrsvp@gmail.com.
