Mary Irene Grace McHugh, "Irene," of Southampton and Ocean City, peacefully passed away in her home surrounded by her family on December 15, 2022 at the age of 92, just short of her 93rd birthday.

She was the oldest in her family and had younger brothers – Thomas and James Grace. She was born on January 18, 1930 to Irene and Thomas P. Grace in Camden, NJ. She met the love of her life, Jack McHugh, in 1944 when she was 14 years old and they stayed together for the next 74 years until Jack's passing in 2018. They were blessed with three children, Jack Jr., Kim, and Sue and nine grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Irene was a devoted wife, mother, sister, and Aunt. Her most cherished role was that of Nana. Irene loved what she loved with great passion. Irene adored the beach and was happiest in Ocean City. Whether it be Christmas decorations, shopping, her summers in Ocean City or trips to Florida, she lived a long and happy life. She spread her joy to others by sending many greeting cards and giving out bags of candy to people who helped her during her day. Irene never met a person who she did not hug, bless or help. Everyone who met Irene was blessed to know an elegant, faithful, compassionate soul with a generous spirit.

Irene is survived by her loving daughters, Kim McHugh Miller (Kirk) and Sue McHugh Turpin (Jim), and daughter in law, Donna Smick McHugh. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Jeff (Megan) and Todd McHugh, Kyle, Logan and Alexi Miller and Kate, Allison, Erin and Megan Turpin. Her greatest joy in life was her children and grandchildren. She made every effort to attend every single sporting event, dance recital, school play and every graduation for her grandchildren.

Family and Friends are invited to a visitation from 9:00am to 11:00am on Thursday, December 22, 2022 at the Church of the Holy Eucharist, 520 Medford Lakes Road, Tabernacle, NJ 08088.  A Funeral Mass celebrating Irene's life will follow at 11:00am.  Interment private. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Irene's name directed to Samaritan Gift Processing Center, PO Box 71425, Philadelphia, PA 19176-1425 or www. www.SamaritanNJ.org to thank the Samaritan organization for their extraordinary hospice care of Irene and helping her to live out the end of her days with dignity and grace.
