IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Gifford Farr
Booth
April 24, 1943 – May 27, 2020
Gifford Farr Booth, Red Hill, PA, former long term resident of Cape Neddick, Maine and Norwell, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on May 27 th , 2020, after seven years of Alzheimer's. Gifford recently celebrated his 77 th birthday. He was born April 24 th , 1943 in South Weymouth, Massachusetts of late Henry Rodman Booth and Eleanor Gertrude (LeDuc) Booth. Gifford is survived by his wife Elaine Ann (Coffey) Booth of 40 years, his daughter Jennie Eleanor (Booth) Barr, his son Christopher Barstow Booth, his three granddaughters Willow, Lila and Abilene Barr, and his son-in-law Timothy Barr.
Gifford was a very ordinary person, but he was an extraordinary man to all those who knew him. He was slow to judge and quick to help. He didn't complain about anything, unless he knew he could fix it. Well, he certainly could fix or build lots of things. He was on or employed by planning boards, real estate companies, was part of multiple town meetings and committees, with his final position as the Code Enforcement Officer in Ogunquit Maine until his retirement at age 70. He was proud of his works of life and his 'curricular vitae' which he would bring out to show visitors as if it were a trophy. He came from a long line of Masons, and was a member of the St. Aspinquid Masonic Lodge in York Maine and the Phoenix Lodge in Hanover, MA . Giff served in the National Guard and came from a family line of Historic Shipbuilders on the North River, where his family homestead was also located in Norwell, MA built by Thomas Barstow.
Gifford had a dry Yankee sense of humor, which was often outlandish in nature. Giff was full of quotes and sayings. (If you knew him, I won't list them here!) He had an entire collection of self promoted quotes, which he frequented throughout his lifetime. Giff loved to cook and eat, he was a duel restaurant owner, a multi property owner and developer, a Cambridge Ecology Action Activist, a blueprint designer, and the inventor of the Y.B.Tacky poster hangers. He did things in his own way, in his own time. Giff changed the world all around him for the better, slowly but surely. Gifford was a builder, an inventor, an architect, and a self-starter always full of ideas. He assembled a Geodesic dome on the very first Earth Day on 1970 in Cambridge, MA. He loved socializing with friends out on the deck, storytelling, having quiet times, listening to classical music, and watching wildlife from afar, especially songbirds. Giff was steadfast and dependable. He was a helper to all those who needed it and he never expected anything in return. He was always willing to lend a hand, work for free, or do things that no one would attempt on their own. He was highly sought after for advice because of that. He had a slow and subtle, but persuasive way of being encouraging and influential to others. He supported causes great and small. He gave everything of himself to everyone else, he was the Salt of the Earth.
Above all these impressive attributes and contributions to our world, he was a Son, a Husband, a Father, a Grandfather, and a Dear Friend to everyone he ever met. Our hearts are heavy with grief and sorrow, but our lives are fuller with all the richness that he has given us. He will always be remembered and kept alive by those who love him. He has impacted countless lives on this planet, and no one has walked away unchanged. Gifford, until we meet again, Peace Be with You.
A Private Service will be held with close friends and family. In lieu of flowers, please send memorial contributions in Gifford's name to "The Gathering Place" 518 U.S. Rt 1, Kittery, Maine 03904. (
