Born in Philadelphia on May 12, 1946, he was the son of the late George Wesley Hoover, Jr. and M. Elaine Wear.  He graduated from Friends Central High School in Overbrook, PA in 1965 and attended college for a few years before joining the US Air Force in 1968.  He achieved the rank of Sergeant before his honorable discharge in 1972. He worked in sales at Potts Welding and Boiler Repair in Newark, DE.  He later purchased Anderson Tube Company with a partner and ran the company until his retirement in 2008. He was also a professional wedding photographer.
George was a model train hobbyist from a very young age and was a member of the Train Collectors Association, the Lionel Collectors Club of America, and the Lionel Operating Train Society. He also renewed his passion for photography and enjoyed photographing and documenting his many trips. He was a parrot lover having Fred the cockatoo for 37 years and his beloved Snickers, a blue-fronted amazon.
George was a car and Corvette enthusiast owning a replica Indy 500 pace car since February 1998. He enjoyed Nascar, open wheel racing, and Corvette racing and attended many races up and down the East Coast and Canada. He and his wife belonged to the Skyline Drive Corvette Club of Reading, PA for 20 years where they enjoyed car shows and trips with friends and club members.  George lived by the motto, "See the USA in your Chevrolet" visiting 46 states and many national parks with his wife in their various Corvettes.  George was also an associate member of the Queen City Corvette Club in Charlotte, NC, and a lifetime member of the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, KY for more than 20 years. He enjoyed the many trips all over the United States the museum arranged.  He and his wife visited the museum two or three times a year and it was always a highlight of the year to visit the museum and the friends they made there.
