IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Frederick A.
Henderson, Jr.
July 10, 1938 – October 31, 2020
Frederick A. Henderson, Jr., of Pennsburg, died peacefully at home on October 31, 2020. Born in Philadelphia to the late Frederick A. and Eunice Maxine (Downing) Henderson, he was the loving husband of the late Rosemary J. Henderson.
Fred served as a mechanic in the US Army and worked as an Auto Insurance Appraiser until his retirement. Fred enjoyed hunting and fishing, but will be most remembered for his love and passion for racing cars. According to members of the drag racing community, "Fast Fred" was considered a pioneer in the Golden Age of drag racing. He drove many cars down the strip, but is most known for his 1964 Ford Thunderbolt Shazam. Most recently, Fred enjoyed spending his free time at the track with his 2015 GT500 Mustang.
Fred was the patriarch in a large and loving family. He was always first in line at this favorite holiday celebration – the Henderson Thanksgiving extravaganza where over 80 family members and friends gathered. He was a loving and doting Pop Pop to his four grandchildren. He was regarded as a good friend who would greet everyone with a big smile and good story!
He is survived by his two children; Kelly J. Sakowski, and her husband John, of Wayne and Frederick A. Henderson III, and his wife Heather, of Schwenksville; four grandchildren, Chloe, Jack and Olivia, Nicholas; his sisters Eleanor Dean and Eunice Garry; his brothers John Henderson and David Henderson. In addition to his wife and parents, he is predeceased by his brothers James Henderson and Samuel Henderson; and his brothers-in-law Bob Dean and Joseph Garry.
A graveside service will be private for the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Fred's name are requested to Philadelphia Ronald McDonald House: https://www.philarmh.org/donate/ ; or mail a check donation to 3925 Chestnut Street, Philadelphia, PA 19104, ATTN: Accounting Dept.
